Later, I walked into a restaurant in drop-dead earrings like I owned the building, and everyone's life decisions. Someone asked what I was wearing. I wore earrings that could kill a man. Bones, death, Anubis, the gods, older than fear. I dressed for those who walk between worlds, in vegan Buffalo shoes that have gone where most people won’t even dare to look.

LEOPARD, OXSEN & ANUBIS AT DINNER
I came for the food. I stayed for the oxen. Indigenous, ancient breed. I fed one by hand. He didn't flinch. Neither did I. We understood each other perfectly.
The food? Vegetarian plate with truffles. Eggs from their own chickens. Wine from their own cellar. Everything from the land they stand on.
The owners, father and son, two generations who chose the hard way. Caring for animals properly. Feeding them well. Giving them a real life before the inevitable end.
I brought Anubis with me. He felt right at home. Because here's what nobody talks about: animals that live well, die differently. There's a dignity in it. A completeness. Good life. Honored death. Simple people. Ancient oxen. Truffle eggs. And me in leopard print, trying to explain to a cow why my shoes are vegan.
